Yesterday we drove 5 miles out on upper Red Lake, the resorts check the ice and plow roads so it's pretty safe, 23" inches of ice. Lots of pickup trucks with huge (tandem axle) portable fish housed behind them. We kept 4 Walleyes, the fishing reports are better than that. (the you should of been here yesterday story!)
