My experience with Chevy has been the same. Some may be the most reliable vehicle you ever had, but the next could keep you from ever buying a Chevy again. Look for a slightly older Toyota Camry with about the same miles. You never hear complaints about the Camry's, other than being boring and the I4 engine being a little lacking in power for some driving conditions. I can't speak for the Cobalt, but the Camry is also very sure footed in snow. One problem with some is the V6 can be too much for the automatic transmission, so if you get a V6, then look for a manual transmission. Some may argue that Japan was on the wrong side during the war and you should support the American companies, and thats true, but Chevy obviously doesn't care too much about you if their willing to sell their crap, and therefore don't really deserve your business just because their American. On top of that, Japanese auto companies and the high quality cars they produce have forced the American auto makers to produce a better quality car to be able to compete. If American companies had no competition, then they would continue to lower the quality to maximize their profit because you have no one else to buy from. At the end of the day, it's a global market, and buying from GM won't change that. If you have to buy parts for a GM, their made all over as well.

Dad bought the 202 new in 1962, and I recall quite clearly going to the dealer with him to sign for it.
