Chevy Cobalt Good/Bad?

Know anything about em? Looking at used 06 and 07's with 4 cyl. The reviews I read are all over the place. Some with 200k and no problems and some with nothing but trouble. Couldn't find any common problems. Thank you for your time. We will probably use this car to go buy parts for wife's future JD D.

Daughter has had good luck with hers, but not that old, or that many miles. Very stripped down model, not even power windows to go bad.

We bought one for the dotter to go to college in. It did the job, no problems. It was an '05. She ran it all through college, then after she graduated, driving it to her job for another 6 yrs. lots of miles, no trouble. We bought a used '09 and are driving it still. No problems. gets down the road rides well and is comfortable. It gets around 30 mpg. No complaints.

Our daughter's 2008 Cobalt (built in 2007) has been OK, not great. It has the low profile tires so the ride is pretty rough. Worse than my Silverado.

We had an 06 for a couple of years as my work car. It was a great little car for us. Got great gas mileage with it. We had the coupe model, it was a sporty little thing to drive. I really miss it. Being only 2 door with four kids it was not so practical to haul them around in. Got rid of it and have an 04 Malibu now which has the exact same engine in it. Malibu does not get as good of mileage but has been a good car. SHON

Have one with about 75k miles on it and haven't had too many issues with it. New wheel bearings at 60k and that's it so far. Have a 4 door 5 speed and with summer tires can get close to 40mpg so it is very economical to drive and with the 5 speed its kind of fun too.

My experience with Chevy has been the same. Some may be the most reliable vehicle you ever had, but the next could keep you from ever buying a Chevy again. Look for a slightly older Toyota Camry with about the same miles. You never hear complaints about the Camry's, other than being boring and the I4 engine being a little lacking in power for some driving conditions. I can't speak for the Cobalt, but the Camry is also very sure footed in snow. One problem with some is the V6 can be too much for the automatic transmission, so if you get a V6, then look for a manual transmission. Some may argue that Japan was on the wrong side during the war and you should support the American companies, and thats true, but Chevy obviously doesn't care too much about you if their willing to sell their crap, and therefore don't really deserve your business just because their American. On top of that, Japanese auto companies and the high quality cars they produce have forced the American auto makers to produce a better quality car to be able to compete. If American companies had no competition, then they would continue to lower the quality to maximize their profit because you have no one else to buy from. At the end of the day, it's a global market, and buying from GM won't change that. If you have to buy parts for a GM, their made all over as well.

A friend of mine was working on one in his shop when I stopped by. It was a rebuilder. One thing is for sure he told me "if you get in an accident driving a Chevy Cobalt you will die"!

we had 2 - love the 4 cyl EcoTec engine, decent power at part throttle and when you stomp on the gas it really winds up and howls, oil changes are very easy

the 2006 had leaky fuel pump on top of gas tank = expensive fix but factory finally paid for most of it, intermediate linkage on power steering has recall

2007 was lot better but same power steering reacll, terrific gas mileage, we would regularly get 34 mpg on highway

car is nothing fancy but decent in the smow if you have good tires

they stopped making them in 2010 or I would have bot another one, the Cruze is heavier with smaller motor, to get crusie control you have to buy the smaller motro with turbo

I hit a deer with a Geo metro once and didn't die, I can't imagine anyone worth their salt would say something like that. So definitive. If you get clipped by a train in a semi you may die, but its not like saying you WILL die. Advice. Better off not taken.
