Bret, Perhaps I was reading between the lines of the Gov's remarks, and I'm not trying to argue with you, but if in the past you made a routine traffic stop and saw a gun case in the rear seat of the car, wouldn't you have asked to see what was in it and then ask for proper paperwork. If it was a weapon of questionable nature, and if the driver could not provide you with reasonable answers to your questions about the gun, wouldn't you have retained the driver and confiscate the weapon if found to be undocumented?
