Doug, I've been a fan of Whirlpool's for decades. I have one I bought used on 1978 when I purchased my house. It's been my goal to keep it going as long as I can. Many timer rebuilds, belts, water vales, motor, and heater tubes on dryer. I thing the heater tubes on the dryer is the best design, safest. It's also the easiest to replace.
That said, I recently purchased a new Whirlpool washer and dryer for my country home. Thought getting the newer fancy washer would be a good idea, wrong.
Not impressed with how clean things get. Wouldn't buy the more expensive Whirlpool. Next time, I will look to see if Whirlpool still makes the better, simpler, washer like days of old.
I still have my old Whirlpool and another old Whirlpool set in the basement of my country home. Like the old washers, not the new one.
Not a lot of difference in the new dryer design, it's a good one.
