I think some of the confusion might come from what we see in the box. My place was wired in the 80's. The only place where there are more than three wires, so far as I know, are the lights with multiple switches. And I have two sub panels.(Main is at grain facility- subs at house and barns). In all boxes bare copper ground and white neutral are hooked to the same places. So, from the conversations on here, I have to assume that either the code has changed, my electricians were incompetent, and/or any day now I'll go up in smoke!
