If you needed tires paying 75% is better than paying 100%. Most likely what that tire was going on will probably never wear out the used ones that went on it.
7 years ago I paid $200 for a set of 13.6 X 38s that were a little less than half tread at best. Way more expensive than what I wanted to spend at the time especially compared to new price just a few years earlier. Finally mounted them this summer (took me that long to find rims) and thought what a deal I had made. Sold one the horribly old dry rotted tires and rusted out rim (but still held air) for $150. Kept the "good tire" (paid $1 for it) and the rim I patched a few years ago even though the guy offered me $250 for it.
