Moisture is a big reason plus the cheap skates like me plow sod ground in the fall so Mother Nature helps break up the clods wich means one less trip across the field with the disc. Erosion is not a big issue here in penns woods plenty of trees to slow down the wind and if the field is plowed across the hill the water doesn't wash it away. Not to mention this is the slow time of year so plowing now gives more time to do other work in the spring when your busy.
