You know,I got to pondering on this this morning while I was hauling cattle. When I was a kid,Dad was around here all the time,working. Same way as I was when my kids were growing up. When I was about four years old,Dad shopped for me for Christmas at the hardware store. Got me a tack hammer,a key hole saw,small vice,a C-clamp,stuff like that. Imagine buying things like that for a 4 year old these days. You'd probably go to jail. I did the same thing for my kids though. Got'em tool kits,small garden tools to play in the dirt,things of that nature. They wanted to be out there working right beside me same as I did with my dad.
How many kids are exposed to that sort of thing now at a real young age when their minds are just starting to form? And I mean real young,2,3,4 years old? When Dad goes off to work,comes home and plops down in a chair instead of working on his own car,or in the yard or garden,doesn't tinker around fixing or building things in the garage to cause the kids any curiosity,what are the kids going to learn? They play with plastic toys,learn to sit in front of the TV,learn from their friends instead of from a responsible adult. So NO,in a lot of cases,people DON'T raise their kids anymore. At least not in the sense of giving them any kind of curiosity or even being a good example at an age when it matters. You can't fault the kids when they're in their teens if you didn't start them out the right way when they were young.
