I worked with a union welder right after I retired from the Army. His union had it set up so that if he worked at welding for a non union place he lost part of his retirement. His mom got sick and he moved back home (here) to help her out. No union welding jobs in the area so he worked a low paying job. His mom died and he was close to retirement so he stayed here working his "new" job until he turned 65.
Another guy I know thought the union would be great. He and his co-workers voted in the union. The place he worked at closed up and they all lost thier jobs. New owners reopened the place and refused to hire anyone who had worked there before.
