Jay, I can't comment on the good or bad of Solar City. Here is how the lease program works. They the Leasor buys, installs, and hopefully maintains all the equipment on your site. THEY receive all the NYSERDA, and Fed. Tax deductions, as they own the equipment. The owner pays a Monthly Fee deternined by them, for the equipment, similar to what Telmark Leasing (Agway) did with farm equipment back in the 80s-90s. The reason for the 120% max. (used to be 110%) is because if you and some neighbors are powered by a "spur line" and if a group of users in this "spur Line" start producing large amounts of power that is being fed back to the grid, the spur line could cause an overload back feed situation all the way down the spur and posibly further down the main line, causing mechanical transmission problems.
