We have a heat and glow GDV 4000. It is a direct vent and a little smaller than a standard one. It is in our living room and so is our thermostat. We run it and it keeps that room nice and warm so the furnace doesnt run. Makes the bed room a little chilly but I think it saves us money. Those units are 80+ percent efficient heaters. It can be used without the fan with no problems. I think the fan was 150.00 so we never bought it.
