Do the math. 150 bushel corn yield. A 1% harvest loss. (Normal would be in the 1-3% depending on the crop condition). At the 1% that would 1 1/2 bushels per acre. You only plant about a 1/3 of a bushel in the row. So that 1 1/2 bushel spread out looks real bad. The thing is in most years the corn that is shelled and lost will not usually grow. With the earlier harvest this year it is growing volunteer.
It can be with any brand combine. In some varieties it maybe all header loss too. The corn crop this year is a real challenge to do a good harvest in. Weak stalks and a lot of nubbin ears.
So I am not going to throw and rocks at anybody this year. It has been a tough season and it is going to fight us to the very end.
