There are a few A-T's in the area, nice tractors, good survivors. The reason for the size was simply a matter of scale: big engines, high torque, low quality metal, big wheels. They needed to be big just to stay together and keep traction. This was 1900's engineering at its finest, by the end of the prarie tractor days of the big Rumely's, Avery's and A-T's the technology had progressed to higher rpm, smaller sized engines with smaller flywheels. Manufacturing technology improved allowing more durable gears, more refined transmissions and no need for massive frames to haul the huge engines around.
