Pictures from Geneseo 2012

Had great weather last weekend, and a good turnout. each year gets a little bigger, great turnout of A-C's. A horrible corn crop put a damper on the picking this year, but had a nice big pile of straw by the end.

Told / showed my 13-year-old that in those days, Avery 14-28 could not have had a plastic bucket on top, there was no plastic inthose days. Just cast iron and oak. Not sure he appreciated it.

(quoted from post at 03:07:15 09/20/12) Geneseo IL?
I live just east of there a little ways! I will have to remember this one!

Yeah, it was late and I forgot to post the state. the actual site is at Joslin IL on 92, they moved the show to new permenant grounds there three years ago. Clubs website is at http://www.ae-ta.com/ Its a working farm show so it stays pretty active.

Sorry about the bucket, I was taking pics early since things have a habit of moving around a lot at the show and wanted to miss the crowds. I did get one or two later on with the avery out in the threshing area without it.

I was there sunday morning. Have not been to the show since it was at Atkinson. Thought the jeep with the plow was a nice touch. Have never seen one of them at a show. Corn yeild was miserable they picked for over and hour and could not have had 5 bushel in the wagon per picker. Also got to meet the old lady who lives to the south west of the grounds.... She was very pleasant for a sunday morning.

I drove my Farmall H there on Friday from Geneseo. The weather was great and it was a great show again this year. I look forward to having my H fixed up more for next year as IH is the featured tractor next year.

As far as the corn yield goes, I think one of the pickers needed an adjustment as it was shelling the corn as it picked it. The ground was covered with corn kernals. I'm guessing stalk rollers too far apart???

I think next year will be huge. I was amazed at the number of A-C's that showed up, and the implements. Thats one of the best things about the show is people bring out implements you don't see at other shows. There is such a following of IH around though, that its going to be a big feature. I would not be shocked if they beat out the JD show last year.

We told them next year, that we could probably fill most of our row with our Rock Island's as we should be bringing at least two more. We are going to try and belt up one or two of them as well and should have a plow ready to go so hopefully we wil get some field time next year.

The Aultman and Taylor tractor. Why were they so big back then. I remember climbing on one when I was kid here in Texas. May not have been that model. But I remember to me it looked as big as a house. When I came back from nam. It was gone. Never did find out where it went.

I sure would like to see one in action.

There are a few A-T's in the area, nice tractors, good survivors. The reason for the size was simply a matter of scale: big engines, high torque, low quality metal, big wheels. They needed to be big just to stay together and keep traction. This was 1900's engineering at its finest, by the end of the prarie tractor days of the big Rumely's, Avery's and A-T's the technology had progressed to higher rpm, smaller sized engines with smaller flywheels. Manufacturing technology improved allowing more durable gears, more refined transmissions and no need for massive frames to haul the huge engines around.
