Will a 244 cornhead work on a Deere 3940?

We want to make snaplage and have a 244 head off our 300 picker.If we find a screen and an adapter plate will it work on a 3940? I am afraid that the tongue is to short and that when turning a snoot will go thru a rear tractor tire.The 3960 and 3970 harvesters have a longer tongue that would give more clearence.Does anyone have a adapter plate for sale in the midwest?(Iowa,Ill,MN or WI)
