My grandmother had a way to cook those puffballs into deliciousness. Many fond memories of the opening day of squirrel season as a kid and I would take my haul of dressed squirrels (and almost always found a puffball on the sway) to Grandma and her eyes would light up and then mine would light up later when she made squirrel pot pie and fried puffball on the side. Sure wish I would have paid attention to her culinary skills because I'm afraid they're lost now. All my attempts to reproduce it fail miserably.
