I take the screw in hinges and weld them to metal posts, the local supplier includes them with the gates. Set the gate on a wood block (hinge end) and a wagon jack (chain end) then level it up so it looks like it will swing above obstacles. Then weld some scrap chunks on the hinge and post for extra support, another chunk over the top of the hinge to keep the gate from lifting off.
