dave is probably right, if the peddle is spongy its usually the mastercylinder,also if you come to a stop, hold the brake peddle down and in a few seconds the peddle goes further down, there is no doubt, if the peddle is hard, with lots of travel, it usualy means the rear brake adjusters have stopped working, either rusted up or worn shoes,but if thats the case the peddle will he hard, not spongy
