I take issue with your comment making us believe that firing 18000 requires little or mild repair. 18000 rounds would significantly wear our the lands and fill the groves with particle welded steel. That effects the accuracy in competition shoots. Barrels wear down with that amount of rounds pushed through the barrel with loads that are sometimes hand loaded beyond Mfg suggestion guide. Regardless of how much bragging a gun owner does, there will be worn spots in the groves and missing land configurations.Polishing pistols preserve the finish (if no Nichol wears thin)but polishing stainless steel has no effect other then cleaning dirt, grime gun powder.off the weapon. I own at least two Smith & Wesson firearms and can tell you the tooling is superb and fitting is immaculate. My Sons 480 Ruger is another example of fine quality workmanship.I say TO EACH HIS OWN. Preference of purchase belongs to the perspective buyer and should not be compared to others gun purchasers.Puts me in the mind of children singing "MY DOGS BETTER THEN YOUR DOG cause mine eats kennel ration yatta yatta yatta.Sure,different strokes for different folks ,so the saying goes, so I wouldn't try to present myself as an authority on any subject.
