It took heat and 35 tons, but the guy with the 100 ton press got the hunk of shaft out of the axel last night!! Did not crush it to pieces, nor maim anyone with schrappnel. Price was really, really reasonable.
So if we'd had a stronger press frame, husband probably would have been able to do it with heat and his biggest bottle jack at home.
