I think northvale-PA may be on the right track. Real, old fashioned peanut butter separates from the oil and has to be stirred each time it is used. But most if the major brands today take the peanut oil out, add two or three other kinds of vegetable oil, add sugar and heaven only knows what some of that other stuff in there is. So it could well be that altering the peanuts in the process would cause problems with some peoplle.
