Actually, there are several thousand named varieties. I tell my wife, though, it is like corn varieties.......if you narrowed it down to a few dozen, no one would miss the other thousand!! It is obvious being around them, however, why certain varieties like Stella D'or are so popular w/ commercial landscapers....prolonged blooming period, high bud counts, good foliage and usually a good rebloom. It is also interesting to see what is popular w/ homeowners.....some really nice ones don't sell and some that we consider so-so are sold out a year in advance!!
