Here is a picture of my wife's "hobby"...about 200 different varieties of daylilies in full bloom. While it looks nice this time of year, it is a lot of work. She sells the roots and also does some hybridization. Just to keep it tractor related, we use a Gibson "D" to do the tillage in this 1/2 acre field.

Photo didn't come through. Seems as if you have to click on "continue" after you upload a photo... even if only uploading the one pic, or they don't show up.

Please try again, sounds like a neat photo.

Brad,
Try again, I love flowers, especially daylilies. They seem to hold up during the dry weather. Love to learn how to hybridize too.

Wow, that is beautiful!

Does your wife go out and dead-head the blossoms to make them bloom longer or just let them go?

I really like day lilies, too. Eventually, I will landscape the terrace next to the house and want to use a lot of day lilies.

Actually, there are several thousand named varieties. I tell my wife, though, it is like corn varieties.......if you narrowed it down to a few dozen, no one would miss the other thousand!! It is obvious being around them, however, why certain varieties like Stella D'or are so popular w/ commercial landscapers....prolonged blooming period, high bud counts, good foliage and usually a good rebloom. It is also interesting to see what is popular w/ homeowners.....some really nice ones don't sell and some that we consider so-so are sold out a year in advance!!

Serious sized plants. Have one about the same size called Jim after wife's cousin.

Short tailed field mice took up home in my main bed and eat the bulbs before I knew the were in the bed. Gave them some nnalert bait and they are gone and so are most of my lilies.

We have the wild orange ones and I thought it interesting that the indians used to dig up the bulbs, boil them, and eat them like potatoes. While I haven't had the heart to try some I also learned they ate the flowers like a salad. I did try a few of them and they're not bad. Thanks for the picture. joe-
