cleaning aluminum (engine/trans block)??

Hey folks... Since this little car I just got isn't the throw away hoopty that I was hoping for, I figure it'll be fun to keep it in good shape and get an inside parking spot at a couple oldtimer shows/get togethers...

Spent some quality ime with it before dark after I waxed it and found no rust and only a few rock chips along the bottom and a couple key (??) scratches/chips. Aliminum motor and trans is a little flakey with the usual white corrosion and the sheet metal valve cover is rusty a little. VC gasket is seaping so I'll clean/paint the cover when I replace the gasket.

Anyone know of a way to clean the motor/trans of the corrosion?

Oven cleaner and pressure washer maybe, or is there a better way??
