cleaning aluminum (engine/trans block)??

Hey folks... Since this little car I just got isn't the throw away hoopty that I was hoping for, I figure it'll be fun to keep it in good shape and get an inside parking spot at a couple oldtimer shows/get togethers...

Spent some quality ime with it before dark after I waxed it and found no rust and only a few rock chips along the bottom and a couple key (??) scratches/chips. Aliminum motor and trans is a little flakey with the usual white corrosion and the sheet metal valve cover is rusty a little. VC gasket is seaping so I'll clean/paint the cover when I replace the gasket.
Anyone know of a way to clean the motor/trans of the corrosion?
Oven cleaner and pressure washer maybe, or is there a better way??

Don't know if you could get it where you are, but Zep makes industrial cleaning products that should do the job. Their product called "Zepalum" did pretty good for me.

Have you got a can by chance??? Maybe if I know the actice ingredient, I can find something...

The little bit I had was given to me at a truck washing place in a jug. The way I knew what it was, I saw the label on the drum it came out of.
I don't really know if you can buy it in smaller containers than about 5 gallons or so. Sorry I can't be more informative than that.

If there are any places there that wash big trucks, check to see if you can find out what they use.

That is exactly the product I was trying to describe. Chaney doesn't offer shipping on it, though, and the closest pickup location was in Maryland!
I don't think so!
Some other distributor may have it closer when I need some again.

If you check the MSDS listed on their page, it is a witch's brew of 3 acids and ethylene glycol.

If Dave can't find this product where he is, he may be able to find an equivalent product or use the ingredients list to come up with something that works.
