I like them for get around cars that are easy/cheap to work on and easy on fuel and still fun to drive...
Had a little polo once with a 1.0 motor and 5 speed that just laughed at the gas stations. 4 new tires may set you back 200 bucks and parts are dirt cheap... Little leery of the newer ones as far as working on them my self tho...
The German version of cash for clunkers took a lot of good vehicles off the road....
