We just replaced our 18 year old Amana, the motor fried- new motor $226 used motor $126 + freight, new cheap Amana washer $319. Shopped around a bit and bought a Maytag (yes I know it's really a Whirlpool) The local Mom & Pop appliance/electric store had a high efficiency Maytag top loader (we're old-that floor is a lot lower than it was when we were kids) it was about $65 cheaper than our local home center (Menards) for a similar washer, our washer is actually one model up from the Menard's washer. For another $40 we could of gotten a high efficiency GE with a "made in America" sticker on the front and mechanical dials & switches rather than solid state keypads. I would of rather had the dials but it wasn't worth the extra money to me. Got the new Maytag home I knew they weren't built in Iowa anymore, the box says Ohio. I think even the LGs are assembled in the USA even though they're a Korean firm. We seem to have kept more of our appliance production in the US.
