I have been looking for an overhaul kit that has higher compression pistons for the older JD 404 engines. My old supplier can no long get the high compression pistons. I really like to use the higher compression pistons in the earlier 404 engines. It really makes them start much better in cold weather and does not seem to hurt them in any way. JD does not offer the kit any longer even through A&I at this time. JD did a few years ago but not right now.
I have found this web site that is called AGKITS.COM/Syracuse Crank & Machine in Liverpool,NY. They have a kit that claims "Platinum Performance Engine Kits are designed to improve cold weather starting, extend engine life & increase horsepower." and "Platinum Performance pistons raise the static compression of an engine approximately 1.25 points" . These are Advantage Engine Parts. I have not heard of this brand. I don't want to use some cheap import but will really look at a smaller USA brand for this application. They also have Clevite kits but they are not high compression.
So have any of you personally used these kits/brand parts??? How did the quality seem to be?? Even if you have not used them do you know if they are USA made or imported??? Also what kind of company is Syracuse Crank & Machine to deal with???
