The stems are fragile and break easily so if you hoe it out each individual piece will re-sprout. I have some of it on the other farm where I am trying to start a grove. It seems to thrive in bare ground. I couldn't use a spray there so I don't have any advice on that subject. I fall seeded blue grass there and this spring the blue grass crowded it out.
Spot spraying with Glypho in a small garden sprayer might be the only cnoice. Slip a field tile over the corn plant and then spray the weed. Tedious for sure. Jim
