I used teflon tape once and it melted. I now use a pipe dope that is a little more yellow, but is like peanut butter. On the container it states what it can be used for and the pressures and it can be used for hydraulics and almost everything up to 2500 # working pressure. Never had a problem with it nor a leak. Stays pliable so it comes off when you are ready to open the joing.
