when replacing a hydraulic hose,do i need to put teflon tape or pipe dope on the fitting? thank you.leon. it"s a small b1750 kubota.

Depends n the fitting brass fittings do not require anything.
Other types do. Teflon is the easiest to use be sure to keep all the tape on the theads. 3 to 4 layers pulled very tight, don't cut it off pull it off letting the threads do the cutting this will help set the tape in place. Be sure to wind the tape so that it won't push off when fitting it to the other fitting.

depends on the fitting style.
Only tapered tread fittings(steel or brass) require tread sealer, make sure you only use tape compatible for oil

JIC and boss o-ring fittings do not require tape. Pipe thread , it is best to use a liquid thread sealer like loctite 565 because there is a risk if tape is not put on correctly it could enter the hydraulic system.

If its pipe thread fittings use tape, everytime i use the pipe dope liquid stuff the fittings always leak, just my opinion.

The fuel man told me years ago not to use any pipe dope with petroleum products. Said if you have to use anything, use permatex. I don't use anything with hydraulic hoses.

You don't normally need 3 or 4 layers of teflon tape to seal pipe thread, 2 is more than plenty on good fittings.

Leon, I use a white pipe sealer with teflon built into it. It is made for hydraulic, gas, oil, etc fittings. I get it from a supplier that sells things for the petroleum industry. It has not failed me yet, it stays soft, and for the life of me I cant think of the name of it. And the best part it is not that expensive. I dont have a working computer at home, if I think of it I will find the name tomorrow and post it on here.

I used teflon tape once and it melted. I now use a pipe dope that is a little more yellow, but is like peanut butter. On the container it states what it can be used for and the pressures and it can be used for hydraulics and almost everything up to 2500 # working pressure. Never had a problem with it nor a leak. Stays pliable so it comes off when you are ready to open the joing.
