Ran into the same problem 2 years ago. Bought an after-market power steering kit for an Oliver 550. The kit did not come with a pump. Went to a combine junk yard and got a pump off of a John Deere combine, made a mount for the engine but when I started the tractor the pump was pumping backwards. Switched the lines and it has worked flawlessly for two years. I was careful to keep the lines the way they were plumbed on the combine originally, but on the combine the pump faced the engine instead of being mounted on the side of it. This was a Vickers pump by the way.
