Last fall we found the threads on one of the front spindles on our 285 were stripped, so Dad got a used one from the bone yard. This weekend I broke a spindle on our 1855, so now I've got a couple to fix.
Here's pics of my repair on the 285's spindle.
I welded it up, set it up in a VMC, and had a thread mill program made. Took a little time and wouldn't be cost effective for the average joe to pay to have it done, but I enjoy doing this sort of repair for myself.
