I've used a Lowe 1200 with up to a 20" auger and not had any problems. Rarely ran the machine full throttle. When you run into problems is when you have sticky clay and try to drill too much at a time. I've had a 9" auger stuck pretty good a few times but that was usually when drilling over 6' deep. If you keep going up and down in tough clay makes it a lot easier. In easier digging, like for fence posts, you can usually do it in one shot and do a lot of holes in a hurry.
