Make a tripwire early warning system using a mouse/rat trap, nail, and BLANK shotgun shell!
Take a common mousetrap and drill a hole directly below the hammer (the part that kills the rodent)
Glue your blank shotgun shell onto the back of the mousetrap with any waterproof glue. The primer of the shell should be centered on the drilled hole.
Place a small block of wood over the drilled hole. This is to protect the shell from impact in case you mess up and trip the trap. Carefully attach the tripwire to the cheese tray. Once the wire is stable, remove the block of wood.
Gently slide a flathead nail or tack into the drilled hole. The nail should fit snug, but not too tight. DO NOT FORCE THE NAIL INTO THE HOLE.
When the tripwire is pulled (tripped) it will pull the cheese tray and the hammer will snap onto the nail, driving it into the primer. Boooom!
