I've had top-loading washers my whole life and they were pretty much zero-maintenance. As soon as we remodelled and got a front loading washer, it's been a nightmare. I've had that lower panel off 3 times now. Always plugged up with baby socks, coins, and stuff that shouldn't have been in MY pockets :). It's a fundamental flaw in the front-loading design; small stuff WILL get past the gasket and clog the screen. Not advocating going back to a top-loader because it's worth it to have the space (stacking), but buyer beware!
