Many years ago, when I bought my first MC, a Honda 450-4, it was used and had to be inspected. The previous owner had taken the baffles out of the mufflers, and it was pretty loud. And, because of no baffles, the inspection station wouldn't pass it. So, I went to the Coke machine, and bought two sodas. Gave one to the inspector, and I drank one. Then I knocked a hole in the bottoms, and shoved them up the offending tailpipes. Instant quiet, and a new inspection sticker. Pulled out onto the street, stopped, yanked them out and went on up the road...

We had a mixed farm consisting of grain and dairy all done with old machinery and by hand.
