A 22 might be a better choice. I have herd it told that when deer get to thick and gooberment beaurocrats can't find an answer a 22 is a good choice. If you can get with in 100 yrds I have herd it said that you can hit them a little far back. Not much noise to make the neibors wander what's go'n on and the buzzards show up a mile away. Cranes would be about the same, a few get thumped and take off, the rest leave with them.
