That is incredible, they sure will have some memory about that. I cannot imagine how hard it is to pick up the pieces, deceased loved ones, destruction of property, but hope those affected can rise up and out of this catastrophic event.
We've had tornados before, and I've seen the destruction, but its not to the scale of what has occurred recently and or within the last year in those hard hit areas near you.
I recall one in the 80's west of here crossing I-88, had deliveries out that way, a clear path could be seen, most nearby barns flattened or roof torn off.
We had one 10 miles north of here on May 31 1998, that particular storm ranks amongst my top ten as probably #1, it came through twice, got all nice out again, went over to the reservoir, good time to fish after a nice rain, that sucker came back around and we had a heck of time getting back here, 2 miles away. It touched down to the north, eradicated several homes, nothing left, one was a goalie on my hockey team, his family was left with nothing, we pooled together to get some hockey equipment, so we could play ! It crossed a river and headed to open farm and ag land, did some amazing things, moving outbuildings and such, then it fizzled out. Its not a common occurrence, but I will tell you when that prevailing southern tropical air and or wind meets up with a cold front, wow, that hot steamy wind was blowing all day until it let loose, I've never forgot the conditions that day, was a rare occurrence.
