Tornado miracle

Finally got the chance today to ride down in one of the neighborhoods that got hit by the tornado this past weekend. I've been working on a piece of equipment a customer was using to clean up debris where it had done 'a little' damage but what a difference several hundred yards made. Looked like it was in the process of jumping when it went across where I was working but on into the next neighborhood the top was gone off of one house, and the house next to it was basically gone. What's really strange is that a couple houses down on either side the lawn furnature was still setting in the yard, untouched, no siding gone, etc, etc. I haven't seen it but I was told by a police officer that after it jumped the interstate it hit the next neighborhood over full force and what I was seeing with the few houses hit where I was wasn't even a drop in the bucket.

Now to the miracle part. I had heard the story several times this wek from various people but given the subject matter thought it was just alot of BS. That said I asked the cop I was talking to about it and he verified what I had heard. Seems there were three kids sucked out of one, or more, of the demolished houses by the tornado and set down a couple of hundred yards away on the interstate. He said other than a few cuts and bruises all three kids were just fine. Like I said I thought it was all BS but the cop verified that it did actually happen. Now if that happening and those kids not being hurt ain't a miracle, I don't know what is. One thing about it, they will all three sure have something to tell their kids and grandkids about when they get older......

That reminds me, is it true the 2 year old girl that lived for a while after her family was killed was found in a field TEN MILES from her home? News I read said that, but never heard it verified.

Knew a fellow once that as a kid got sucked into one here in Ohio. He was fine and he carried the newspaper artical around with him as proof.

That is incredible, they sure will have some memory about that. I cannot imagine how hard it is to pick up the pieces, deceased loved ones, destruction of property, but hope those affected can rise up and out of this catastrophic event.

We've had tornados before, and I've seen the destruction, but its not to the scale of what has occurred recently and or within the last year in those hard hit areas near you.

I recall one in the 80's west of here crossing I-88, had deliveries out that way, a clear path could be seen, most nearby barns flattened or roof torn off.

We had one 10 miles north of here on May 31 1998, that particular storm ranks amongst my top ten as probably #1, it came through twice, got all nice out again, went over to the reservoir, good time to fish after a nice rain, that sucker came back around and we had a heck of time getting back here, 2 miles away. It touched down to the north, eradicated several homes, nothing left, one was a goalie on my hockey team, his family was left with nothing, we pooled together to get some hockey equipment, so we could play ! It crossed a river and headed to open farm and ag land, did some amazing things, moving outbuildings and such, then it fizzled out. Its not a common occurrence, but I will tell you when that prevailing southern tropical air and or wind meets up with a cold front, wow, that hot steamy wind was blowing all day until it let loose, I've never forgot the conditions that day, was a rare occurrence.

See the link below, $71 million in damage, F3 200 MPH winds, I've never seen trees of the size near my home bend over so far, my favorite black cherry was wanting to touch the ground, she held and still here today.
NYS Tornado

I remember when I was a kid hearing about a pioneer farmer lifted away by a tornado and being gently set to the ground a half mile away with no injuries. True ???? Who knows. I could see it happening by the winds from the outer edges of a tornado vs the violent inner portion.

10 miles is what they were saying on the news. I was in OH when it happened and it was on the news quite a bit. They couldn't have gotten it wrong. They also did an interview with the guy that took the family in to his trailer before it hit. He was sucked up in it too but only had a broken arm and back.

I used to work storms back when i was working on a line crew.oddest thing i ever saw was at muldrow okla. AS far as you could see literally not one building, tree,or blade of grass was standing, except for one little old maybe 900 square foot or less wood frame house right on top a hill. Absolutly NOTHING around it was left.We drove by it as we worked and there was a old lady standing in the front yard crying.I asked her if she needed something and she said no ,she was just crying because that was her house. It quite literally had no damage whatsoever you could see,not one single shingle off,or window broken.I told her she was sure lucky ,and she said no she wasnt, that was her house ,but that wasnt her LOT! evidently she was home and tornado picked whole house up,moved it a hundred yards or so and set it back down with out doing any damage at all, with her in it! Sure can do some strange things.one guy here a couple of years ago had to meet his wife for dinner in town so he ran in to take a shower and emptied his pockets on the back of the toilet and left two or three dollar bills laying there. After he left, small tornado came through and literally scattered that trailer house and everything in it for a 1/4 mile.all there was left was a trailer frame, the floor of the bathroom, the toilet ,with those dollar bills still laying on it! there was for years after one tornado,a elm tree here about 2 1/2 -3 foot accross.stuck right through the middle of it was one of those cheap white curtain rods.
