I have yet to see an extended warranty NOT provided by the manufacturer that was worth the paper it was written on. I know Ford's is OK, GM's WAS OK, I wouldn't know about it now.
The "indepednent" extended warranty plans usually seem to follow the business model of:
1. Sell the warranty plan for a few years and try to make minimal repairs.
2. Pay all the money out in salary and bonuses then declare bankruptcy.
People that bought a 3 year warranty find out the company nolonger exists 2 years later.
