Goose neck by law you have to have safety chain but a 5th wheel no chains need plus you can also pull trailer with people in it with a 5th wheel but you can not do so with a goose neck. Also goose neck has a weight limit of 30,000lbs but a 5th wheel the limit is the hitch and you can if you want to pay for it get 5th wheel hitches good for 80,000 plus. The reason you see 5th wheels on the big rigs are because they are safer for heavier stuff but do not do as well in ruff ground like a field and such
