I have a 12 volt Delco 2 brush generator setup on my old michigan loader. Couple of days ago it quit charging. I have used old John T's generator troubleshooting blurb and can't figure this one out.
Battery is good as it took a charge from a bench charger. Still starts the machine with no problems.
Generator works well when I try to motor check it. Spins it over with the belts loose but still dragging. When I ground the field terminal I get no output. When I ground the field and jumper the batt to arm I still get no output.
I am about ready to go buy an alternator but would like to know whats wrong before I go replacing things.

The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
