Back in the mid 90s I owned a building and the City of Minneapolis wanted the lot (lots) that it was on. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse so I sold it but I retained the salvage rights to it. Part of the building had burned back in the late 50s or early 60s and the then owners had rebuilt it. It was all done with Doug Fir. So I hired a kid to help and spent a week salvaging the lumber out of it. I pulled about 60 sticks of 2X10 X13' and about 80 sticks of 2x10x18' plus hundreds of 2x6 x12' and lots and lots of 1x8 in random lengths. All DF. There was two 2 ton truckloads of lumber that I saved. I used that lumber for everything over the years, built a garage, reroofed a big porch, sistered a lot of sagging floor joists, concrete forms, etc. 3 years ago when I was building the addition on this house I was using the last of the 2x10s and the building inspector stopped me. You can't use used lumber here... I told him to look it over closely at it as it was all Doug Fir - end stamped and graded. He looked it over and said man, that's some nice stuff. Let's just say it was left over from another job - and he let me use it. I still have about 100' of the 1x8s left but the rest is all gone.

He had over a period of months spent a fair amount of his hard earned cash on replacement parts for the old "trembler" ignition. Sadly though all his efforts seemed to be a waste of time and money as he still couldn''t get the temperamental old thing to run correctly!! If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce
