I never knew that 302s were so hard on gas. I guess because most 302s that I knew were driven for performance and you expected it, but last year I bought an 86 F150 with 302 and AOD. I bought it for the automatic, but danged if my old 76 F150 with a 360 don't get better mileage than the 86. Personally, I would prefer the 300 six. There is only 2ci. difference and they develop more torque and get reasonable mileage too.
