Even if you know your possible future boss you may end up disliking him/her just as much as the old one. I am in that mess now, sure he seemed pretty good when we were "equals", but when he got that title he was just as bad or worse then when I worked under him before. I would say go for it, I have comitted myself (in my own mind only) to finish the job I am on. I made up my mind 2 1/2 years ago and am not done yet and it is not worth it waiting, let me tell you
