When I was a kid, my Dad paid me 25 cents for every ground squirrel tail I brought him. It was very challenging to hit them with my single shot .22 and the quarter I got for their tails pretty much paid for my ammunition.
Ground squirrels used to be a real problem around here, with lots of pasture damage. For some reason I hardly see any ground squirrels any more--don"t know why.
I used to try to tie flies, but always had better luck fishing with ones I bought.
