I have a Canon Power Shot SX20IS that I like very much. It takes great photos, even from a moving car. It has 20X optical zoom and 80X digital zoom which is pretty amazing. I chose this camera because, Number One, it has the peephole viewfinder (as well as the screen). My close-up eyesight is not good enough that I can see what I�m shooting on the screen, and if the sun is bright it is totally useless. Number Two, it uses AA batteries. I don�t want to have bother with re-charging, and I don�t care how many AAs it burns through. It is a bit bulky, and I�m probably going to get that $99 Canon A1200 MarkB mentioned just to have as a shirt pocket camera. I don�t know how to take pictures with my phone.
