Around here every service group be it the Rotary, Lions, Kinsmen, Orange Men, Royal Canadian Legion, Women's Institute, Agricultural Society and Masons. They are all suffering declining membership. Too few young/middle aged folk with time on their hands. Now there is the internet, computer games, cable/satellite TV, work, commute time from work etc. People have "less" free time and more entertainment. It used to be a big deal to get out of the house and away from the wife/children to attend a lodge meeting. Now it seems to be a nuisance to join a club/group? The Masons around here are past middle age and are almost asking people to join. They are approaching people to recruit new members. They even had a booth set up at the local farm show and running folk through a display tent trying to drum up interest. They even had a display at the local museum last year. I wonder what the membership numbers and average age are vs. 40 years ago?
